MBA Program Information

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program equips students to become innovative and strategic leaders in business through the integration of theory to real-world challenges encountered in today’s dynamic business environment. In this asynchronous online program, students are challenged to gain the knowledge and tools needed to lead for-profit and non-profit organizations as they collaborate with faculty and their fellow students to engage in problem solving and strategic planning. This program is intended for students looking to jumpstart their careers or to pivot toward leadership positions of greater responsibility and opportunity. In addition to the seven core classes listed below, students can select their desired emphasis track in either Management or Business Analytics. Each track consists of three courses. All MBA courses are three credit hours and eight weeks in length. Students can complete their MBA in as little as twelve months by taking two courses at a time, or in two years taking one course at a time.

MBA Admission

An applicant’s file will be reviewed by the MBA admissions committee to determine suitability for the MBA degree program. Criteria for admission include the following.

  1. Bachelor’s degree with an overall GPA of 3.0 in undergraduate coursework.
  • If you do not have an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher then you must have at least 5 years of work experience.
  • If you do not have an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher or at least 5 years of work experience then you must submit a GRE score of at least 283 or GMAT score of at least 420 to be considered for admission.
  1. Official transcripts from all institutions attended
  2. Resume or curriculum vitae
  3. Personal Statement explaining the applicant’s motivation to pursue TLU’s MBA.
  4. At least one letter of recommendation.

Note: a maximum of six graduate credit hours may be transferred from other accredited universities (SACSCOC or the equivalent) with approval from the program director.

Academic Probation & Dismissal

MBA students must maintain a graduate GPA of at least 3.0. No graduate course in which a grade below a ‘C’ is earned may be applied toward the completion of the MBA degree plan.

If a student’s cumulative graduate GPA falls below 3.0 or if the student has a grade of ‘D’ or ‘F’ in any graduate class, the student will be placed on academic probation. If, during the probationary semester, the student’s cumulative graduate GPA is raised to at least 3.0, without a ‘D’ or ‘F’ in any graduate class, the student may be removed from academic probation. If, at the conclusion of the probationary semester, the student fails to achieve a cumulative graduate GPA of at least 3.0, the student will be dismissed from the program.

Students dismissed from the MBA program may appeal the dismissal to the MBA Program Director and the Admissions Committee whose decision is final. The written statement of appeal should detail reasons why circumstances of the case warrant special consideration. If the appeal is denied, one semester must elapse before the student may apply for readmission.

Requirements to Register for MBA Courses

To register for any MBA course, students must be accepted into the MBA degree program and must satisfy the prerequisites specified in the course descriptions. BUSM 599 Business Strategy Capstone is designed to be taken in the student’s final semester of the MBA degree plan.
