The Texas Lutheran University Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program provides students with expertise in descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics and delivers the ability to turn data into decisions that are crucial in our fast-paced world filled with data. Our program is designed with the working professional in mind and consists of 30 hours (18 core, 9 electives, 3 capstone) that are delivered 100% online. TLU undergraduates can also pursue this degree as part of a concurrent BA/MS program and complete both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in 5 years.
Admission to MSBA Program
Applicants who already hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (SACSCOC or the equivalent) may apply for admission to the MSBA degree program. The MSBA admissions committee will consider strong academic performance throughout the applicant’s undergraduate degree programs, as well as other application materials. Direct application for admission to the MSBA degree program is made to the Office of Admissions. Materials to complete one’s application file include:
- TLU application completed at apply.tlu.edu.
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- Letter providing additional information to be considered by the admissions committee (optional)
Satisfactory GMAT scores taken within the last five years and recommendation letters may be requested at the discretion of the admissions committee. Note: a maximum of six graduate credit hours may be transferred from other accredited universities (SACSCOC or the equivalent).
Concurrent Admission to the MSBA Degree Program
An applicant’s file will be reviewed by the MSBA admissions committee to determine suitability for the program. Criteria for admission include the following.
- Completion of a minimum of 70 undergraduate credit hours.
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.000 across all undergraduate curriculum
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 across MSBA prerequisite courses (see below)
- Attainment of a ‘B’ or better in STAT 374
Application for admission to the concurrent MSBA program is made to the Office of Admissions. Materials needed to complete the application include:
- A concurrent graduate student application provided by the Office of Admissions.
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended NOT listed on the TLU transcript.
- Letter providing additional information to be considered by the admissions committee (optional).
MSBA Prerequisite Courses
Applicants to the MSBA degree program must have successfully completed the following undergraduate coursework, or their equivalents: ISYS 231 Introduction to Information Systems and STAT 374 Statistics.
Academic Probation & Dismissal
MSBA students must maintain a graduate GPA of at least 3.0. No graduate course in which a grade below a ‘C’ is earned may be applied toward the completion of the MSBA degree plan.
If a student’s cumulative graduate GPA falls below 3.0 or if the student has a grade of ‘D’ or ‘F’ in any graduate class, the student will be placed on academic probation. If, during the probationary semester, the student’s cumulative graduate GPA is raised to at least 3.0, without a ‘D’ or ‘F’ in any graduate class, the student may be removed from academic probation. If, at the conclusion of the probationary semester, the student fails to achieve a cumulative graduate GPA of at least 3.0, the student will be dismissed from the program.
A student dismissed from the MSBA degree program may submit a written appeal detailing why circumstances of the case warrant special consideration. This appeal goes to the MSBA admissions committee, whose decision is final. If the appeal is denied, one semester must elapse before the student may reapply to the MSBA degree program.
Readmission
Readmission, occurring under the current catalog, is not guaranteed and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the MSBA admissions committee.
Requirements to Register for MSBA Courses
To register for any MSBA course, students must be accepted into the MSBA degree program and must satisfy the prerequisites specified in the course descriptions. BUSA 599 Capstone is designed to be taken in the student’s final semester of the MSBA degree plan.
