HIST 338 - The U.S. in the 20th Century World

In this course, students examine the history of American involvement in the world the start of the 20th century. Through the study of secondary sources and the interpretation of primary sources, students will explore the formulation of American foreign policy, diplomacy, and participation in multilateral organizations, but also investigate war, military alliances and military occupations. Students will reflect on the activities of private citizens, private corporations and non-governmental organizations in shaping interactions, and ask how the United States is a part of the world in matters such as trade, immigration and refugee resettlement. Students will conduct original research and present their findings orally and in writing.

Prerequisites: Sophomore standing.
