HIST 333 - Civil War & Reconstruction Era

This course explores the causes, course, and consequences of the American Civil War, from the 1840s through the 1870s. The course will examine the following themes: the crisis of union and disunion; slavery, race, and emancipation; the experience of modern, total war for individuals and American society; the political and social challenges of Reconstruction; and the question of why the Civil War era has a unique hold on American historical memory. Also offered as AFAM 333 .

Prerequisites: Sophomore standing.
